European Parliament & Fashion Art Institute. Fashion Art EU. 28 Artist from 28 EU Countries tell 28 stories in 28 dresses.

VALENTÍN KOVATCHEV has been selected by the FASHION ART INSTITUTE to represent BULGARIA at the FASHION ART EU exhibition that is an ambitious project carried out by the Fashion Art Institute Association, presented by designer Manuel Fernández. The Parlamentarium, the European Parliament Visitors’ Centre will host this exhibition from 20th November 2014 to 15th May 2015.

This exhibit fuses fashion and art, uniting the two forms of expression in the same piece f material, 28 artists from the European Union art to be the protagonists of this unique exhibition -each of the artists using their personal technique to communicate European values in their particular manner. The result is a new pictorial language uniting very diverse artistic movements that coexist in harmony – reminiscent of the harmony of coexistence among the countries of the European Union.

This collection comes to the Parlamentarium and will be installed there for 6 months before it starts its tour in the member states. It is a special opportunity to appreciate art, fashion and the idea of Europe merged in the same artefact: an outfit.

Since 1998 the Spanish designer Manuel Fernández has presented in one piece the work of renowned international artists and his designs, emerging as a pluralistic movement, achieving results of exceptional plastic richness and opening new fields of investigation. The Fashion Art Institute also carries out social work with its workshops for groups at risk of exclusion, accompanying each exhibition.

Fashion Art has exhibited in more that twenty prestigious museums around the world, including major ones in the America continent. More that three million people have visited these exhibitions.

The title of the amazing work by Valentín Kovatchev is “A light in the darkness” a hopeful message inspired by the following:

“It would be impossible to think about the European civilization without considering the legacy of two Bulgarian brothers, Cyril and Methodius, who, in the ninth century created the Slavic script, cornerstone for the integration and development of Europe, reason for which they are deservedly considered the Patron Saints of Europe.

So, the Cyrilic alphabet, the unborn child who represents the light in darkness (the future generations), the idea of motherhood, and the ladders as the constant elements that are always flying through space in a relentless pursuit of freedom, improvement and communication, are some of the inspiring metaphors found in this piece of art.

But there’s a really inspiring message I discovered by chance when reading a Spanish media that got engraved on my heart; it was an interview with H.H. King Simeon of Bulgaria, just before the integration of Bulgaria into the EU. The question was: what can Bulgaria add to the EU? King Simeon’s response was: “Spirituality, because it should not be forgotten that the EU is not only an economic union but much more.”

My greatest happiness would be to highlight all those values that have inspired me to make this artwork. I would also like to add that I am deeply grateful for having been part of this wonderful project.” Valentín Kovatchev.
